When you are released from the hospital and carry your newborn baby home for the first time, it is an amazing day. You are filled with excitement and love to welcome this new little angel into your life, but there is also a certain level of fear, anxiety, and nervousness. An innocent, fragile life is completely in your hands and one small mistake could be extremely costly...even deadly!

All new mothers wonder why babies don't come with instruction manuals, but in fact they do. Babies do come with instruction manuals, but most new mothers don't know it from the beginning. The instruction manual is the natural intuition that every new mother possesses.

You have natural gut instinct that will drive your decisions in regards to your new baby. If you can tap into that and learn to listen to yourself you will know what your baby needs and will be able to take care of them throughout infanthood into toddlerhood and beyond.

Yet, every mother is still dying to know exactly what their newborns need and want to be happy. The list is actually rather short:

* Physical Sustenance

* Love

* Security

These needs are not in order of importance because babies need all three when they are swaddled in that blanket and brought home from the hospital. They need to be physically fed and cared for so their life can be sustained. This is the absolute basic need of any baby and includes adequate amounts of healthy food and water as well as diaper changes and other elements of basic baby care.

Those things sustain the baby's life, but your baby also needs to feel loved and secure. They need to feel protected and to know as they grow up that they have someone always looking out for them. When babies feel protected and loved by those surrounding them they are happier and can focus on growing and developing in the healthiest manner possible.

That is all babies need when they are first brought home from the hospital! Notice that the best toys and other physical belongings are not on this list. Babies simply do not need a lot of things that money can buy to be healthy and sustained when they are small. Just being well cared for and loved is more than enough for the most innocent amongst us.

New mothers who listen to their own gut instincts and trust those instincts will be able to fulfill all of these needs for their newborn babies. They will naturally know when something is wrong or when a need is not being met. They will also instinctively understand what needs to be done for their baby at any given time.

Most new mothers don't realize this fact because they are so nervous and believe they don't know enough about caring for a small baby. There are some elements of parenting that need to be taught such as changing diapers or swaddling in blankets, but caring and loving a baby comes naturally. You just have to trust yourself and learn to listen to that natural instinct that every woman is equipped with naturally.

Bringing your baby home from the hospital should be one of the happiest days of your entire life. Get in touch with your natural motherly instinct and you will find the job of protecting and caring for this fragile new life to be a little less scary.

Hello Belliott,

I think the message of this hub is so important. Yes, mothers know instinctively what to do. All mothers need is encouragement to see that, to trust that instinct. There are so many books and opinions on what is best for babies that it’s far too easy to get confused.
